Subject: Removing window tint. The easy way explained...

Well the easy way is pay to have it done.

After looking at a couple sites, I used simple green, a hot day, a plastic sheet and time to get the tint off then Stoner's Xenit to remove the remaining glue. Damn that was easy!!!

The rear tint on my car was original from 1985. It had gotten a bit wavy so it had to go.

Tint-dude's site said:
1) to cut a plastic sheet (garbage bag) to fit the rear window
2) spray the window with undiluted ammonia and cover with the bag
3) wait about an hour with the car parked in the sun on a warm/hot day
4) peel the tint off.

Suggestions below the instructions said that Simple Green worked and did not smell quite as bad. So I did the steps with the Simple Green and in 30 min, I peeled the tint off in about 4 pieces (it was a two-piece install), leaving a layer of glue. This was easily removed with Stoner's Xenit Orange/Citrus Cleaner.

Now I'm looking out a clear back window for the first time since I bought this car new. WooHoo, no scratches, nicks or wavy images anymore. Tint will go back on when I verify the rear defroster is still 100% intact. There was no damage to the grid from scraping but we'll see when I test it.
