Subject: M20 rebuild shop near Portsmouth NH?

I'm in Minnesota but I'm writing for a friend near Portsmouth NH who is looking for something to pep up his 87 325i. Budget is 5-8g's and the engine needs some major "pick-me-up". Leaky valve cover, needs timing job, running very harsh. An engine swap is difinately an option but with that kind of cash, afterwards, there would be little left for suspension which it also needs.

It is a great base car to start with, in great physical shape inside and out, but needs some mechanical help. HOw much would a basic rebuild run if he were to supply some of the parts? I've checked out Bavarianengine.com and see that there rebuild is a good 4-5grand so he doesn't want to blow it all before install. He's not capable of doing the work himself, but he's not completely mechanicly inept.

Any thoughts?

Steve
