Subject: Oil Seperator Valve Under Top Timming Cover

Hi

I would like to know if anyone has a bently manual for a BMW 2001 540i e39 M62 automatic and if it show's you can change this black cone shaped crank case ventalation valve ( cyclone valve or oil seperator valve) from the top of the engine or do you have to take off all the upper and lower timming chain covers. I heard it can be done from the top on this engine on this model is it true any pic's would help.

The problem is that i still get a puff of blue smoke every 6th to 10th cold start or the car sitting for a while after a drive. I have changed the OSV and all gaskets on the intake manifold. I feel no suction when the oil dip stick is taken out and very minimal suction with the oil cap taken off. I just checked all the plugs this weekend to see if it is a valve or piston issue but all plugs were good except cylinder 1 which was a little wet and black in color. I still think it would be this valve under the timming cover that is causing my problem and would like to change it. As for the cylinder #1 it should smoke on every start if it were a problem right now correct? Car has only 75K Miles

Thanks for all your help in advance.
