The box that was used in the Corvette C4 ZR1s. It's called the S6-40 aka the ZF6. Simple facts:
- it's lighter than the getrag 6
- max torque 400-450 ft-lbs stock (up to 700 with modifications)
- spare parts are available
- aftermarket is available



I'm getting a little bit worried about the Getrag. Having huge slop in it. If I am rolling down a hill, clutch in, and I put it in and out of 1st or 2st a few times rapidly you can hear things internally just slapping around. Makes the whole car feel like a piece of shit. Or if I am in a high gear at low speed and stab the throttle, you can hear it too..or low gear and low speed (say, clutch out, 2mph, 1st gear) and stab the throttle...same thing. But at normally speeds (or power shifts) it's just fine. Worrying.

It just seems like a better idea. My only options are with the getrag:
- buy another used one, likely beat up
- buy a reman one from bmw for over 4000
- pay the specialist 3800 dollars to rebuild it

Why would I do that if I can buy a brand new ZF6 for 2500 dollars? Sure, it'll cost money to do a custom shifter, driveshaft, bellhousing and mounts..but I'd still be way less than a brand new Getrag 6, and have a better transmission...
