I decided to go ahead with ordering a 2005 M3 coupe with the SMG; I didn't want to take chance that there would not be a 2006 e46 M3. I was able to pay 5% over dealer invoice, which amounted to saving about $2500 off MSRP. The discount was based on the company I work for, which has a relationship with the dealer, else I might have been forced to pay full sticker. I test drove a couple of M3's with SMG before I ordered my car and I definately found it "jerky" in the automatic mode. I have not driven a manual in over 10 years but I think I should get the hang of it after a while, I'm sure the learning curve is longer and steeper if you are not used to driving stick but even in the test-drives I was getting the hang of it. I'm pretty excited, it should be here in early-mid August.
