Conventional wisdow is that you need new tires when you canm insert a o penny into your treads and see the top of Lincoln's head. There are also treadware indicator bars on all tires and when they are flush with the tread its time to replace your tires. Check out tirerack.com. They have very useful info, including reviews on all tires they carry. I would avoid the Continentals which came standard on many 2002 M3's including mine. They are extremely noisy and prone to flats (obvioulsy not good with M 3's.) I just recently replaced my summer tires with BF Goodrich F-Force T/A KDW and so far have been pleased.
