Subject: MORE ON 'CRANK SENSOR PROBS'... (not funny) but may help someone...!

If you can remember, over the past 12-15 months I had issue with faulty crank sensor on '89 E34. After searching the Planet, getting advice & changing all manner of items plus tests by auto elecs/mechs etc to finally track the engine 'miss'... which appeared to be crank sensor adjustment. However, in the process I stripped the thread of the cast alloy block supporting the sensor & occasionally the car would "play up". Get out & make adjustments & it'd be OK again for a while... all the time thinking the little bolt kept coming loose.

Well, I suddenly decided to swap the module under the rear seat, affecting (ALPINA) indicators/flashers & central locking as even to lock/unlock the car became a prob. It just got so bad I was stuck several times, especially with a hot engine. So swapped the "spare" 535 modular into the ALPINA "to see what would happen... ALL IS NOW WELL after 1,000 miles, no further trouble at this stage. Touch wood.

But here's a twist! The "faulty module" (previously professionally tested as "OK") seemed to even affect the ALPINA engine when closing both/either front door, as the engine would simply stop. I discovered that with engine at idle & door open everything was fine. Closing the door activated the small black button in the lock attached to the 'B' pillar. So i tried driving with the door on half latch... no problem, & also (stationary) with door open, pressed the little door lock button... engine would immediately stop.
So I concluded that the immobiliser module could be the problem. (Someone suggested that last year & the reason I had it tested). Now the "faulty module is in the 535... AND IT ALSO HASN'T MISSED A BEAT AFTER (ALSO) 1,000 MILES!
GO FIGURE!

AHhhhh! ALPINA's!
