Subject: VANOS Problem???

Hello, first post here. I have been having text book examples of a VANOS failure. I have done much work on this car chasing the problem. What has lead me to the VANOS is tonight after replacing injectors I hooked my vacuum gauge up to the line from the IAC. I had approx. 15-20" of vacuum. Went to do a test drive, again, low/no power, stuttering, etc. LImped back to garage. Checked the gauge that I had left connected. As car is struggling to run, I have 10" or less of vacuum. Upon working the throttle, vacuum goes even lower and car seems to want to stall. ALso I hear what sounds like lots of air rushing through the intake manifold. When this problem started months ago, while driving down the road I would put it in neutral, turn the car off and immediately restart and problems would go away for a bit. I did the restart procedure tonight and again, vacuum came right back up and engine running fine. I am thinking that the VANOS is sticking, changing valve timing, losing vacuum and all of my other problems. I have no problem tackling the repair once I am fairly confident that it is the issue. Thanks for any feedback.
