Subject: I try to look on the bright side of things no matter what

I'm actually more worried about the slow pace of the jobs recovery than I am about gas prices.

As much as I agree with you about Obama's mismanagement of offshore drilling (he's shaping up more and more to be the Jimmy Carter of the 21st century), I try to look at the one bright spot of rising gas prices: the HOPE that it might encourage the worst gas wasters to reconsider their driving habits or vehicle choices. Hey pal, do you really need to drive that 8 mpg, three ton Escalade to the store ALONE? Not to pick on large-SUV owners, but they do tend to be the most visible targets out there. Crossovers are gaining in popularity, as well as in capability and fuel economy.

One suggestion: bicycles for those short, pleasant weather trips. Yes I am being absolutely serious. If you can stand to break a bicycle loose from it's "child's toy" stereotype, Some of us could stand to lose a few pounds, or even trim some of that overhang off the gut. A bicycle is emissions-free, uses no fuel, and might even add a little more time to your lifespan if used regularly.

If higher gas prices force all of us to be more responsible with our driving habits and vehicle choices, is that really so terrible?

Speaking your mind to me means I will speak my mind to you also. It's a two way street. If that worries you, or if you believe free speech only applies to those who agree with you, be sure to wear a helmet before reading my posts. Thanks! As a matter of fact I DO hug trees! Deal with it.
