Well, the EH in my 750iL behaves like that in 'E' mode. Which to me is silly, the car attempts to get into top gear as quick as possible to 'conserve' fuel... but in reality it lugs it badly. The 3HP in my 745i I cannot really compare as it has no OD and it has been so long since I have driven my Motronic 745i cars I cannot compare there either.

I pretty much never drive an Overdrive trans around town in OD. Try that and see how you feel.

Also, the E23s are pretty undergeared unless driving a manual as they have a deep first gear with a shorter OD ratio... 733i came with a 3.25:1! Late 735i in the E32 came with a 3.91:1 with the auto or 3.64:1 with a manual.

Combination of more gear and driving in 3rd at speeds sub 55mph would make the car far more responsive and not lug at 2000rpm. Apparently the most common, direct fit for the E23 is going to be a 3.73:1 diff from an E30. Evan did a long term with this and total driving only dropped about 1mpg... hardly anything you will even notice.

Also, the stock 059 Bosch programming is very poor. I would chip it if you have not done so. The newer chips out actually add power all over, not just high RPM.

Oh and a Lolvo V90
