Subject: 'normal behavior?' questions.

I have 2 things I'm hoping you other e23 owners can confirm as being normal for these cars.

One is a sort of high-pitched hissing noise that my car makes when accelerating. I only hear it if I'm beside a wall or another vehicle when acclerating. It's not super loud, but gives the impression of rushing air. If I rev the engine with the hood up, I don't really hear it, though the noise the intake manifold makes sounds kind of like a muted version of it. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

The other has to do with auto transmission performance. Most of the time, when I push the pedal down to about 75%, even if the trans downshifts it will start trying to pull from around 2k rpm and build speed slowly. This is in contrast to most other cars which will put the engine at a higher rpm point and let it wind up a bit before upshifting. Even my '59 Ford with its 2-spd auto will demonstrate a substantial increase in engine speed when I get on the throttle, though it seldom downshifts (can only do so much with 2 gears!) To put it another way, it feels like I'm accelerating a manual trans car in too high of a gear, in that there is little tq converter slip (as indicated by minimal rpm increase) and a slow building of both engine and road speed. Typical?

Btw, adjusting the trans cable will cause earlier downshifts, but the same general effect remains present.
