Subject: What I've been up to lately. . .

This all started with a failed coolant hose; one which happens to be buried behind the intake manifold, against the firewall. An evil "hissssssss" sound was the beginning of what is now going on a month of working 30 minutes here, 20 minutes there- Ive developed some issues with my hands, and mechanic work is a real challenge. . .

I the horizontal hose in the back was the culprit.

I added the heat shielding, thinking it would preserve the new hoses, as well as the main wiring harness. I have since decided it might, but will also mask any future leaks, and make them hard to detect. Only time will tell.

Since the car is torn apart, I decided to clean up some wiring which has been bothering me for some time. I also have to replace the expansion valve, so it was a great time to go ahead and work on the wiring under the passenger side. I could kick myself for not taking before pictures, as I'm quite proud of the amount of cleaning up I've done in the wiring. Yes, I painted the crossbracing as well. I just couldn't do with the ugly rust color steel.

I then moved to the driver's side, cleaned up the wiring, painted that crossbracing as well, and ran sender and power / ground wiring for new gauges. And YES, that IS A TILT STEERING COLUMN!!! And, YES, that is a switch for headlight range control (euro only option) The range control retrofit wiring is all factory, and connects in the proper factory locations.

I also ran wiring for an alternate sunroof control switch, which I will install in the console.

That's about it for the E36. I still have a box chock full of parts to go, I'm also replacing the fuel injectors. Once I'm done with the right side of the engine, I'm moving over to the left, and starting on the valve cover gasket job, powdercoating the valve cover, replacing the vanos unit, and wrapping the exhaust mainfolds.

Cheers everyone!
