I'm sorry to hear your X5 had such a failure at such low mileage. With only 7,000 miles on the car, you should have a warranty through BMW?? If not I definitely would not pay what BMW is asking for a Remanufactured engine. If the valves are bent odds are the Head is the only thing that needs to be addressed. A remanufactured head is much more affordable option than a completely new engine, plus the labor. In a worst case scenario when the dealer wont cover the warranty and your stuck with a brand new X5 that wont start, check out
Auto Sports Unlimited Remanufactured Engines and Heads

Again the BMW dealer is going to try to make it seem like you need to use only BMW products, thats where they make all there money. You can purchase your own parts and have them installed by BMW, its a much cheaper option and gives the same results. I sure hope they will cover this problem for you. Please update us all so we can provide more feedback as most of us here have been in your shoes.
