Apparently the Sanden compressor swap is popular for these cars, mine had them so I cannot comment on the ease but it is a popular swap for the M110 powered Mercedes (twin cam I6! ) as those came with a massive York, just need new hoses made which are cheap. Then you have a compressor that is more efficient thus taking less HP to spin.

I would flush the compressor some with some fresh oil, just turn the clutch to cycle it out the let it drain and drain.

I use cheap flush... i.e. isopropyl alcohol or something similar. Acetone works, but MAN watch for the vapors this shit smells awful and gets you light headed quick. Flush and flush, then flush more to get it all clean. Those small silver cans suck as you have to refill them constantly but they do work. I broke down and purchased this:

https://www.ackits.com/pc/PULSATOR-KIT/Flush/PULSATOR-KIT+-+The+%22Pulsator%22+DIY+Flush+Machine

Flushing is MUCH easier now. ALSO drill a hole in the liquid side of the TXV... the small side that is closed with aluminum. 1/8"-3/8" or so... then reinstall and it makes flushing the evap core a breeze. Along with the associated hoses behind the dash.

ACkits.com also for an oring kit, they are about $10 and they have some snot in a bottle to lube them/hold in place. I would get it too, I did.

Some Syn oils have dye, the one I use does. http://images.imcparts.net/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/imc/images/full/9008300035.jpg I use that stuff. 900 830 00 35 is the PN I use.

I put some oil in the dryer then the rest in the suction hose to the compressor then spin the clutch for a while to really disperse the oil in the system. You do not want it all in the low line as it can slug the compressor... not good. Vac it down, then before you flip the system on let it sit for a while to verify no leaks. Let it suck in as much refrigerant as it can while under vac, then turn it on and off you go.

You MAY have to jump the pressure switch until system pressure comes up enough to allow the compressor to run normally.
