I am just amazed at the ridiculous reasons I have seen for not filling out the Census form. For non-US readers unfamiliar with this once-a-decade tradition in America, our nation is constitutionally required to take a numerical count of its citizens every ten years.

The form asks just ten questions this time around and is already postage-prepaid, for those of you thinking the government is trying to shake you down for your last 44 cents for the stamp.

Do you want your community or state to LOSE representation in Congress (Census population data is used to determine how many Representatives your state will have in the House of Representatives)? Then don't send it in!

Do you want LESS money for roads, hospitals, bridges, police and fire departments, etc for your community? States assess police and fire protection based on the size of your community. This information comes from the Census too. Then don't send it in!... See More

Do you want money taken AWAY from your community because the Census thinks nobody lives there? States allocate money to communities based on Census population figures on a per capita basis. Then don't send it in!

Do you mistakenly think that not sending it in will save anyone any money (the return envelope is postage prepaid, so the government isn't trying to take your last forty-four cents)? Then don't send it in!

Do you want fewer schools and playgrounds for your community? (states allocate money for schools on a per enrolled student basis) Don't send it in!

Go ahead. Come up with just ONE reason why filling out TEN questions on a census form is such a horrible idea. The money has already been allocated to the Census bureau for the costs, so how is anyone SAVING anyone any money by not sending it back in?

Do you really want to finish off your community once and for all and diminish your state's influence in Congress by not sending this in? Why would you want to destroy your community? You live there, don't you?

By the way, for those of you who are still convinced that the Census Bureau "leaks" information on individuals to DHS, ICE or any other government agency, just to let you know, individual information is not available on Census information for 70 years (for geneological purposes only). That should be more than enough time to move the fugitives to another attic. Just kidding.

I have yet to see a single, valid, viable reason not to send this form in.
