97 540i Build date 5/96

I too am part of the ABS, ASC illumination club. In my case cruise control,
speedo and everything else work fine with the exception of ABS and probably ASC.

Fault codes:
067 intermittent interference
005 right wheel speed sensor
032 front right wheel speed sensor wiring

My early build 540i has a bosch 5.0 module that can not be repaired by Module Masters or BBA. One of the techs said common problem on mine is FR wheel sensor. Checked with multimeter, (all read the same) and cleaned all sensors. FR sensor wires cracked and shorting. (This is true of alot of the wiring on the car, BMW and Bosch and Siemens and VDO should start here if they want to improve the reliability of their cars.) Fixed with electrical tape all visible problems.

Now lights go off at startup and return after first brake application above 15MPH.

I have ordered a new front wheel sensor I'll let you know what happens
