Interesting theories.
Webhorn has already pointed out that after his seals install the oil pressure light goes out faster when he starts the engine.
These engines can sometimes have an oil pressure problem with the red light coming on. I wonder if replacing the vanos seals would fix this.

One thing you are mistaken about is the oil pressure level. The standard i6 engines use the engine oil pump for the vanos, so the oil pressure is .5-2 bar.
The performance i6 engines, eg M3, have an oil pump in the vanos that’s driven by the exhaust camshaft which takes the oil pressure to 100 bar.

Glad your vent hose is staying clean. Maybe we have something here!
