Thanks everyone. I followed that thread and a few others I found on another board. I've decided to make my own interface cable, parts are on order!

The E46 calls for the BT antenna to be mounted under the center console. To do so I'll need two different adaptor cables, about $30-$35 worth of parts. Is there any harm in leaving the antenna toward the rear of the car? I mean, that's where it is in an E38, and this is a touring so there should be less obstructions.
