Hi again!

Glad to hear that you experience the same thing after new seals.

I have been reading about frozen crankcase ventilation for over 2 years. It seems to be a heat problem.

Crankcase ventilation is depended of heat and much heat to transport the gas mixture. If the valve cover is to cold the gas mixture will condensate (sludge) before it reach the oil separator. If you drive in an area where the temperature is below 32 ºF or 0 ºC it’s just a matter of time before the sludge freezes at the oil dipstick tube.

People have tried different oils, changed to cold climate parts with no luck.

What has this to do with vanos? Not sure but one thing is for sure.
Cars that changed the crankcase ventilation to cold climate still freezes. One common thing is that all the cars is older and have relative lots of mile. At that age and miles the seals seem to work very poorly in the vanos unit.

Oil has one important thing to do accept to lubricate and keep the engine clean that is to cool engine parts.

One question that’s need to be addressed is the temperature in the vanos unit with new seals and old seals?

Does seals effects the cooling of the vanos in form of oil slipping between piston and the vanos cylinder?

Another thing that’s strange new installed crankcase ventilation will also freeze.
It would be great to hear if anybody got their crankcase ventilation frozen after new seals.

Today I been driven a short distance about 10 miles and the temperature was -12 ºC or 10.4 ºF . No sludge at all in the oil return hoses for the crankcase ventilation. Before new seals I got sludge in every return hose all the way down to the oildipstick.

It would be very interesting to hear if anyone got their crankcase frozen after new seals.

Maybe Rajaie could come up with some thing more. Here in Sweden and other countries that have low temperature the crankcase ventilation is a very big problem. BMW says that this issue is fixed from models 2004 that’s not true at all. I can almost bet that the vanos causes this.
