Hi Rajaie,

just had another feedback in "my" thread from someone who lives in a colder part of germany and installed the beisan rings oct. 2008. The last winter was very cold here in germany, and heīs reporting no problems- everything works still fine, as expected.

It is interesting what you write about fuel injector cleaner. I made the same experience. About four months ago, i thought it might be a good idea for an engine with that high mileage as mine, to run through a bottle of good quality f.i. cleaner with a tank of gas. The engine DID run noticeabliy stronger at low revīs. Not as strong as now with the beisan rings, but stronger. It also stopped pinging, see end of my post. After the tank was empty and refilled with ordinary gas, it took about half a tankful of it to return to the "as before" condition and quickly got even worse!
That means, some f.i. cleaner got past the piston rings and into the engine oil, where it caused the (H)NBR-rings to swell temporarily? Interesting. I thought "oh great, now my engine is not only hooked on oil (as you know, many M54B30 are a bit oil-thirsty, so is mine), but also f.i. cleaner ;-)

I will post the info about the vanos solenoid o-rings and the performance vanos rings beeing made of viton, thanks, very interesting!

I still have a technical problem, which i havenīt been able to resolve. Maybe you have a clue? The problem is, my engine pings noticeably (i mean, I notice it :-)) when accelerating moderately or heavily- until the knock sensors cause the DME at full throttle to retard the timing which results in less power and worse fuel consumption. This annoys me- pinging is not good for the engine and, imo, not supposed to happen.

I use highest grade fuel (98 octane).

What iīve done already to the engine over time, exept regular maintenace:

- cat. converters in exhaust manifold had cracks. welded them and reinstalled w/new gaskets. now airtight. See: http://www.auto-treff.com/bmw/vb/showthread.php?threadid=187013
- new pre-cat O2 sensors
- new spark plugs, plug boots, ignition coils
- new intake manifold gasket
- new disa valve
- completely renewed every part of the CCV system
- new intake boot
- idle speed adjuster cleaned
- new MAF sensor
- new thermostat, water pump
- new rod bearings on crankshaft, with new oil spray nozzles for piston cooling (see: http://www.auto-treff.com/bmw/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=197688&highlight=pleuellager+%F6lwanne )
- new camshaft position sensor exhaust side (old one was still working but had oil leak)
- new fuel filter
- checked pressure in fuel rail
- as mentioned above, used f.i. cleaner
- dissassembled and re-torqued knock sensors

I used exclusively OEM-Parts, exept spark plugs: NGK BKR6EQUP, which are OEM spec. DME has no error codes, all adaption values are well "in the green".

After every action, the pinging seemed to be more or less gone for a short time (maybe the time for the DME to adapt to the new components), but it always came back. I had hoped that the Beisan rings would cure it- due to better cylinder filling with a working vanos, but that didnīt help either with the pinging.

Could it be due to carbon deposits on pistons/heads/valves because of the engines oil consumption? Consumption is quite decent for a M54B30, about a litre every 3000-4000 km, depending on driving style.
Looking inside the combustion chambers with an endoscope didnīt show excessive carbon deposits.

So, iīm clueless and havenīt been able to find a lasting solution for this problem nor anyone with a similar problem. Maybe you have an idea? Thanks for reading,

webhorn
