I've replaced the handle on both a 528 and a 740 - same for both cars. It's not too bad to replace - you either need a special tool or remove the inside door panel. There is a slide clip that keeps the handle in place. If I recall the replacement cost me about $60 from the dealer with my BMWCCA discount and about $75 to paint to correct color.
