Subject: TRUNK - Locked and will not open

New to the post and hope you can help. I went to change a fuse yesterday (both lighters did not work), and opened the trunk fuse panel next to the battery. Pulled out the fuse for the lighter, and could not tell if it was broken or not...so I pulled out he one next to it (both brown) and an alarm went off ! The alarm sounded like it was right next to the battery and, from outside the car, sounded like it was coming right out from rear the passenger wheel well. It shut off after about 30 seconds. For whatever stupid reason during the next couple of minutes, I shut the trunk.

Now, the trunk will not open - not with the trunk button, button on the key, or manually with the key itself. In addition, none of the door locks work either (with key or internal button for locks). And, to top it all off, this has somehow effected my power steering as well. (?) I'm at a loss, and my BMW Mechanic has never heard of this before. Finally, the car will start and run, but whenever I shut it off or start it, that alarm gets activated again, and no matter what I do, the trunk will not open. The problem is, I can't get at the battery to disconnect it....I think if I could, I would be able to put those two fuses back, and maybe it will reset itself.

Thoughts ? This car is too smart for my own good. Thanks for your help. - Bill
