My experience of owning a 2004 model 760Li for the last 10 months has taught me the following lessons;

Checks:

Service History

Service History

Service History.

Every BMW owner will likely be aware that these cars need constant maintenance. For this reason the most important step in buying especially the higher end versions is the service history. If a person is unable to provide you with proper verifiable service histiry then apply a discount to the price to perform the following services.

1. Spark Plugs change
2. Fuel filter change
3. Suspension: Control arms (both upper and lower in the front). For the rear inspect and drive the car over samll bumps to figure their condition. Most cars when passed at a slight speed over bumps give a unique sound (it is not the solid drop sound that comes from normal camtys or accords - please excuse my English, I cannot explain that sound but i somehow can now easily spot it)
4. V Belts (if they break, they really make you hate your car for a while)
5. Battery
6. Rotors and Brake linings
7. Injectors (just check if any problem ever occured or any service was performed)

I did not mention oil as that is something most people remember and do. However it is a good idea to have that changed also.

As per my experience the above components need a change at around 50K to 60K mile range. Going any extra, and one can find hiself in a lot of trouble in case of a breakdown.

Also just look for the usual stuff for repairs after accident etc.

Apartfrom the above, the car has driven beautifully and i really love it.

best
