They are both cars. I currently have a 2002 e39 530i 57,000 miles auto/sports/premium package along with a 2006 X-5 e53 35,500 miles auto/sports/premium package. The inline 6 is truly a very balanced engine. I can go just about as fast as anyone else along with the smoothness of the in-line 6. The e39 gets around 28 MPG+ with the e53 at 23MPG+. The e53 weighs well over 4k pounds. It does not move around as well as the e39 due the weight. I typically drive well over 70+ on the HWY with both cars. I would not buy a BMW without both these sports/ premium package. But this is my preference.

I stay with OEM tires and buy direct from the tire rack and save some dough. I'm not the most handy with tools. But Im very strict with maintenance upkeep and changing oil/filter service at every 3-4k. We have a great Independent here in Auburn, CA,. They drive BMW's themselves which gives me some comfort. So unless it is covered with the factory warranty which is now the e53. The e39 we have had some minor issues but overall it was one heck of a car.

I've owned many BMW over the years including a couple of BMW that were V8. 1995 e34 540I and a 2001 e38 740I sports/premium package. The 2001 was e38 was truly in a class of itself for performance and power. I'm just hung up with my SUV or should I say SAV. The e34 might be my favorite model of all time. Just love the classic look. This e34 could not compare to the V8 in the 740I.

The e38 and e39 share the same V8 to my understanding. These engines ARE a blast to drive. They are world cars with engines in a class by themselves. Just moved on to other models.

I have loved everyone of them just could afford all of them at one time. I would love to purchase another e34 1995 540 someday if it was the right car.

The eboard has been very good, straight up, with help when needed. Good Luck...
