Subject: Need help diagnosing clunky 5sp tranny

Hey everyone,

I need some opinions on a transmission issue. I have an 88 325e with a 5speed manual. I have noticed lately that there is alot of slack in the drivetrain. I was thinking it was maybe a bad U-Joint, but I just had the hangar bearing and guibo replaced and the u-joints are fine. The slack is in the transmission. You notice it alot at slow speeds during shifts or when on and off the gas while in gear. It shifts fine, the synchros seem fine. Is this something that is normal wear on a 192k mi tranny? Is it going to die on me soon, or slowly get worse over the years? Any knowledge/insight/theories/opinions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Chris
