I may be slow to learn, but catch up quickly. I entered the BMW world years ago as a 635 owner, and recently re-entered with a previously owned 2001 740il, which has 47K miles and is perfect. So perfect I do did not want this black vehile sitting in my office parking lot in the sun... baking and aging the interior, my solution was to purchase a white 1992 525i as a run around car. Again, low mileage, very well maintained. The seller mentioned some things which he had held off on repairing due to vehicle being for sale. The LOW OIL light comes on when you start the vehicle but goes away after a minute or two, the vehicle dip stick shows the oil level is correct, and there is no noise which would indicate low oil pressure or that the engine is unhappy. Does any one know how the switch works, is it simply a float that closes a reed switch with a magnet like the old coolant level swithes, or is it more exotic. Can you simply remove it, check it, clean it, check it again, and re-install it? A new price of $128 seems a little expensive for the device. Thanks, Another great car!
