No, it’s a known fact. Do a search. Around normal driving speeds the speedo is 4-5mph above what you are going. This is because of a German law that says a car can never read under what it is actually going. So BMW accounted for wear over time. Un-fortunately, this error grows as speed increases.

Unless you have altered DINAN engine software, the car is limited to 127-132 mph. However it can register as high as 140. This would account for you saying that it kept accelerating past the limit. The speedometer is electric driven. Un-lock your OBC and display the current speed. The OBC is accurate! Then convert the KM/h to MPH. This is your true speed.
