No OS update is necessary. Though, you can easily download the latest OS and update it yourself. Lots of folks here (including me) have done that.

The eBay unit is probably not really remanufactured. It is most likely someone re-selling a used one. No worries, though. Lots of folks here have bought them from Bimmernav and eBay. (Bimmernav is a very good source, by the way.)
