Not a very fun job, but not that hard, here are write ups from others I found helpful:

"To replace the ccv valve--do the following--remove the air box-remove the hoses all the way to the throttle body and idle control valve-remove the disa valve -two torx bolts hold it on then just pull out towards you--remove the bolts under that that hold the mounts for the idle control valve and remove that part
then remove the throttle body and then there is a electrical junction box just left of the throttle body--unbolt that and move it out of the way--next there is a bolt that holds down the oil dipstick--take it out and swing the dipstick back to the side--then you can remove the throttle body----now you will be able to see the ccv valve--there are three plastic hoses hooked to it---BREAK THEM--there is no way to remove them and remove the ccv valve belive me (order all three hoses) There is one or two sheet metal screws that hold the sucker in there--You may have to remove the purge valve from its rubber mount also--it just slides out and you can move it off to the side as well---along with that I really belive that you should replace the 0 rings in the distributation unit as well"

"The CVV is in a difficult location to see and access. It’s under the intake manifold between cyl 2 & 3, approximately. You can follow the valve/crankcase cover vent tube to it. If you take the intake manifold engine cover off you’ll see a tube coming back from it between cyl 1 & 2, if I recall correctly. This connects to a tube that runs back to a tube between cyl 5 & 6, again if I recall correctly. There’s also a small striped vacuum hose from the cvv that comes out between cyl 1 & 2 and connects to a pipe that routs it to the rear.
Don’t mess with any of the cvv tubes unless you plan on replacing them. They are made of thin plastic and easily brittle, if they aren’t already cracked. I changed mine at 85k and every one of the tubes I handled cracked. I also easily broke the cvv into two pieces. It’s also made of crap plastic. To get at the cvv: Remove the air filter housing and associated boots. Disconnect the electrical distribution box and all the associated electrical leads to components; there are many of them. Unbolt the throttle valve box. You’ll see the cvv hiding behind it. There are a couple little trinkets that also need to be removed along the way. The big electrical connector hooked to the throttle valve needs to be turned counter clockwise (unscrewed) to come off.
This is a sticky job. It’s not covered in the TIS or Bentley; not easy to make out; the cvv and hoses (plastic tubes) are in tight spaces; the old components easily break. I talked to my BMW (dealership) mechanic after I did the job. He said that they always replace all 4 hoses with the CVV."
