Just changed the O-rings and seals in the Double VANOS unit on my 2001 330Ci. I bought the valve cover gasket, VANOS gasket, washers, etc as advised and I’m glad I did as they definitely could not be reused. I am not a mechanic but I am pretty good at mechanical/electrical challenges so with the step by step guide provided on the Beisan Systems website (which I must add is absolutely superb! The best guide I have ever seen, you cannot go wrong with it) the job took me approximately 4 hours to complete. When I started the engine I immediately noticed how the rough sounding rattle that it used to have had completely gone and it idles much more smoothly. Even though it is stated that this solution will not be at its full potential until around 200 miles there is without doubt a noticeable difference in the engines characteristics straight away. When the car used to take off from standstill there was not the smoothest acceleration in the lower rev range. On occasions it would nearly stall but just before it did it would all of a sudden get a rush of power which was very uncomfortable and un-nerving especially for my girlfriend who is not the best of drivers anyway. Now it is really smooth right from standstill all the up to the red line. If power nad fuel economy improves after 200 miles then HAPPY DAYS!!. I wasn’t going to write on this forum until I’d done the 200 city miles as stated but I’m that pleased with the immediate improvement I felt I had to let people know. I have to say after reading all the letters written to BMW and the time taken testing and diagnosing by the two guys I feel I have to say shame on you BMW! But hey, you Beisen boys deserve to make a lot of money from BMW’s arrogance. Well done!!! I’ll comment again later on when I’ve done a few more miles.

Cheers,

Martin Crump, U.K.
