I hope the fresh start will be the best thing for you guys. One thing that we're doing here is asking that any money our relatives or friends would have spent on presents for my wife and I be redirected to the kids. It's much easier for us to sacrifice presents than the kids, especially when we're trying to keep them from getting too worried about the job thing.
