just like yours, I took off the front trim when I shadowlined the chrome. I sanded the black smooth (I had the same white oxidized look) and once it was sanded with 800 grit then 1000 grit paper I washed it really good (no soap) with water, let it air dry, dusted it off with compressed air then spray painted it with satin black paint. It almost perfectly matches my new euro front plate holder. You can't even tell it's painted.
