Dear Minneapolis BMW Owner's Group Member,

I can't believe how we have gone through the second month of this year and our next gathering is this next Tuesday, where has the time gone?!  Last month we had a nice gathering at the Burnsville RAMADA LTD& FantaSuite Hotel and I would like to thank Mike, his family and the wonderful staff that were so inviting to our group, thank you!  I'll give you a quick recap on the February gathering.  We had roughly 8 members attend the meeting and we casually revisited some of the plans for over the next year including some ideas for Tech Sessions, organized drives and advanced driving classes through Dakota Technical College.  I will be working on scheduling appointments for some this year's events over my spring break and posting them to the TechnoBMW.com website.  We will be having 2-3 drives, 2-3 advanced driving classes, a few Tech Sessions (both scheduled and spur of the moment) and hopefully a couple BBQs.  If things go right, I would like to add some other social events in there, as to what specifically I'm not quite sure, but hopefully we'll get something fun going!

This will be a repeat of what I sent out last month, but I only have four contacts so here we go again!  Recently I posted an announcement on both our forums regarding the assembly of a master contact list that would be sent out to all of our members.  By having such a list, this would enable you to contact other members quickly if you have questions regarding event and emergency contact information.  A few of you have all ready sent me your information and I will be adding it to the list.  If this sounds like something that interests you, please E-mail me your Name, year and model BMW(s) you drive, your telephone number (cell phone preferred) and the city you live in.  Please do not post this information on either of our forums (MinneapolisBMW [Yahoo Groups] or the TechnoBMW.com forum supported by BimmerBoard.com) to protect our member's privacy and security.  If any such information is posted on either of those two forums regarding this master list I will immediately delete them to protect our members.  I will be assembling the master list later next week and will be E-mailing it to everyone in our group, once again, please do not post any personal contact information such as phone numbers on the forums (regarding this list) to ensure the privacy of our members.

Hakan recently posted some information about the Orr Autosport Inc's Driver Safety Seminar/Open House coming up on Saturday, March 19th from 10am to Noon.  For those who have not received the letter in the mail, I'll just retype the information for you to enjoy so here you go!

Orr Autosport, the Twin Cities premier BMW and Mini tuning facility cordially invites you to our annual Open House.  This year we are pleased to feature a dynamic presentation on driver safety from Mr. Joe Marko.  Joe hails form Boston and is the North American importer of Schroth racing restraints.

Over the past 10 years, Joe has spent a significant amount of time studying safety systems in motorsport applications - in particular harness belts, head and neck restraint systems, helmets, rollbars and seats.  He works closely with NASCAR, CART and IRL teams on the specification and installation of their harnesses.  Joe is a regular presenter to BMWCCA, PCA and Quattro Club chapters around the country on the topic of safety in racing and driver's schools.

Joe's Topics will include:
1. "Myth Busting" The plain truth about safety harness installation.
2. Think Safety? Think Systems! (Does your helmet, harness and seat work in harmony?)
3. Hans device (what is it?)
4. Crash test video (must see TV!)

In addition, co-presenter Mark Link from Diversified Cryogenics will introduce us to his new line of Frozen Rotors for 2005, the cryo treated "Power Slot" rotor.  Chris Orr will bring you up to date on the progress of Orr Autosport's project M3.

See you there!

Doors open at 9:30am and the presentations begin promptly at 10am.  As always, a light continental breakfast will be served.  This event is open to the public so bring a friend!

Need directions?  Call us at 952.922.1797 or visit our website at www.orrautosport.com for door to door directions.

This special event is made possible by our friends at diversified Cryogenics, the maker of Frozen Rotors and the regional distributor of SCHROTH safety harnesses.

Their address is as follows:
Orr Autosport
6221 Cambridge St.
St. Louis Park, MN. 55416
Tel: 952.922.1797

Now that I've covered Orr Autosport's stuff, I would like to get down to business about our gathering coming up this next Tuesday, March 1, 2005.  We will be meeting at 7:00 PM in the Caribou Coffee House located on Hennepin Avenue next to the and here's the information.

7:00 PM
Caribou Coffee
2300 Hennepin Avenue South.
Minneapolis, MN.
612.374.2884

The Caribou is located next to a Baja Tortilla Grill inside a little business strip.  Other businesses by the Caribou are The Alt. (Ski and Bike shop) and there is a Starbucks across the parking lot from the Caribou.  The Hollywood Video store is just north up Hennepin Avenue (closer towards downtown Minneapolis) and the Autopia is on the same block (Hennepin Avenue) as the Caribou just south (away from downtown Minneapolis) so don't worry, you'll find it!  You have to get a little creative with parking, but spots are usually either available in the lot or in the street in front of the  Baja Tortilla Grill.  I really like this Caribou because it is a good central location and it's not that busy so we should have no problems with finding a place to group.

For those who are new to the gatherings, I want to thank you for your interest and please feel free to extend the invitation to other BMW owners.  As a group, we casually talk about different things related to repairs, upgrades, suspension and racing.  During the warmer months we gather at the Caribou Coffee shop located at the Northwest end of Lake Calhoun, but due to the size of our group, we're holding it at different locations through the winter.  We have several ideas for this year, which include several exciting outdoor events.  Many people in our group are members of the BMWCCA and have mentioned that they enjoy having a group that gathers on a monthly basis that's why they are associated with this owners group in addition to the BMWCCA.  If you aren't a member of the BMWCCA, don't worry, it's not a prerequisite to be part of our group, we don't charge membership dues and new members are always welcome!  I hope to see a large turnout this Tuesday, thanks for your interest in the Minneapolis BMW Owners Group!
