Subject: It's too bad that I wasn't aware that you guys were on salary vs. comission

Maybe I'd have come back more often that I did. I have used SCBMW, Peter Pan BMW, Claridges (now Fremont BMW) and Allison (now Mountain View BMW) for service of my various BMWs over the past 28 years. Using dealers for warranty repair service is an exercise in arrogance toward customer complaints and blatant denial of known issues. I have had to return multiple times to get things fixed that were broken or defective. Maybe these dealer's policy for warranty is similar to the medical insurance companies I've read about - deny the first claim and wait to see if they come back to cut costs.

Anyway, the BMW dealer repair system is deeply flawed but this is not news to you or any owner that has used a dealer to repair their vehicle. Your company may have been the last hold out on tech commission and speed bonuses but it is inevitable that Auto Nation will turn their shops into the "rip-off" operation that you've described and we have all lived with - which is at the heart of the dealer/customer distrust issue.

I wish there was something that owners and or honest dealer staff like yourself and your co-workers on strike could do to change it, but BMWNA cannot legally mandate service or compensation policy to their dealers. It may be that they could change their warranty reimbursement system to reduce the incentive to dealers to structure their shops in this way, but they aren't likely to listen after all this time - we don't call them "Stealers" for nothing.
