Just got my first BMW - a 1997 740iL. I bought it in Boston and drove it back to Maryland and it ran great. Took it to get a state inspection and figured I'd have the oil pump bolts check because it needed an oil change anyway. They called and said the drain plug on the pan was nearly stripped out and suggested I replace the pan for $240.00. Since they had the pan off I picked it up and fixed it by welding a nut on the outside of the pan. I have a welder and could do the job but my garage is a mess right now so I had a machine shop weld it for $27.63! The shop that was working on my car sid it seemed to be in pretty good shape except for two power steering hoses leaking and pixels missing in the odometer.

When I tried to fix the pixels I Fu@#ed up the speedometer - now I need a cluster! Any ideas where to get one for a decent price? I hope my attempts to do the power steering hoses has a better outcome. I really am a better than average wrench turner. Wish me Luck!
