Thank you SO MUCH for the info! And yes, it does hydroplane on wet surfaces. Otherwise I love it because it's heavy and rides nice.

Well, except for an odd shimmy that only happens between about 35 and 39 mph. A friend told me to get it aligned and the tires balanced. Does that seem right?

I thought it needed a new clutch because it suddenly stopped shifting, but it turned out it only needed brake fluid (thanks to an honest mobile mechanic) it's running fine now.

I'm not mechanical at all and parts are more expensive for BMWs so I'm thinking of maybe selling it. Not really sure.

I fell in love because it's totally dent-free, not a mark on the interior, and was a 2 owner car (friends) with records and they really kept up on oil changes and such.

But it an '83 and I just want transportation, not a project.

Someone told me to hang onto it, fix anything it needed, and sell it at 25 years old as it becomes a classic or something.

Is there any truth to that?

And what does the "i" mean?
