Subject: help...arced off starter, won't start

i was replacing the timing cover seals and profile gasket on my 91 318is and arced off of my starter solenoid. i know, i should have disconnected the negative battery terminal, but forgot to. in my haste i made a mistake. now my starter won't crank... am thinking it is a dead cell in the battery, because of the arc, and the fact that the battery has had issues in the past... also have jumped off a neighbor recently,(before the arc incident)and should'nt have. i still have the valve cover and upper timing cover off. would this cause a ground problem that would disable starting functions, or should the starter still turn over? when the key is turned, there is a short relay noise and nothing else. no solenoid clicking, nothing. also my turn indicators are flashing by themselves at intervals of 15 times. is this a warning indicator? is my ignition shut down/disabled? how would i overcome this? will try jumpering the 11 and 12 pins to bypass ignition switch today. help, please, this is a beautiful car and my only transportation. ran wonderfully before i got the umption to imitate stealer mech. please help.
