Subject: DFW7 Fall 2004 Meet

The near picture perfect fall day in Dallas provided the ideal backdrop for the last DFW7 meet of 2004. Quite appropriately, the theme for this meet was to turn back the hands of time, so to speak, and restore our beloved E38’s back to their near perfect condition.

There’s only so much we can do to keep our cars clean and looking new. Not with all the potential hazards a pristine looking car has to endure: the dreaded hands of time, flying rocks on the road, that occasional door ding from the parking lot and, of course, the dreaded hail stones of spring in Dallas. What are car crazy folks like us to do?

That’s were Pete and Corky come in. Pete is a paintless dent repair specialist while Corky handles paintwork. Both were kind enough to give us a quick but insightful view of the expert work they do. Most times, you can listen to these guys talk, and think, I can do that. But as you see them in action, you realize the patience and expertise it takes to restore something into it’s near perfect form. Watching Pete’s handiwork on a door ding was almost like watching a plastic surgeon work their own magic to turn back the hands of time on a patient.

Speaking of turning back the hands of time, it wasn’t just 12 hours ago when I too was on a quest for near perfection. The type that usually requires the services of a plastic surgeon to create and a clothing optional club to put on display. Come to think of it, exotic cars, much like exotic dancers, need a bit of expert help to push them over the top. As I have said earlier, there’s only so much we can do. The rest we’ll have to leave to the experts.

A word of thanks to everyone for participating in the meet. In behalf of the DFW7 community, I’d also like to welcome the new members to the club. Many thanks go to Pete and Ben for helping me replace my unexpected and imperfect flat tire. James for bringing the Zaino leather treatment, and of course, to Terry for graciously allowing us to use his office as the venue.

All the best,

Robert
