Subject: I saw the 750Li, but I drove the 750i Sport :-)

The 750i Sport was the other car I drove - and like you, I hate the idrive - and I even have a NEW idrive complaint. It's at the bottom.

The 750i was fantastic. Not as quick as the 535 wagon, but still entertainingly fast. Love the way it handles, feels nice inside, and unlike so many new BMWs, it comes with a matching full size spare! I'm even O.K. with the looks now. But, I still like my E38 740iL Sport better. It's not as quick as the 750i, but the controls are so much more intuitive, the looks inside and out are better, and the interior materials on the E38 feel richer as well.

New iDrive complaint - okay, BMW, if you are going to force this horrble creature on us, at least be freaking consistent with it - it should work the same way across the product lineup - but it doesn't. Over the course of 2 days, I used the iDrive in an 08 E60 with Nav, an 08 E60 without nav, and an 08 E65 (Nav standard). The iDrive had a different interface from the 08 E60 to the 08 E65! The E60 requires a combination of twists and nudges to navigate menus. The E65 goes on ONLY TWISTS. Nudges always perform the same function as if you are at the main menu screen - i.e. even if you are deep in the "Entertainment" menu , a nudge in the direction of where the "Navigation" icon is on the main menu pulls you OUT of the Entertainment menu and into the Navigation menu. Nevermind that you were trying to get to another section of the Entertainment menu that was in the direction you nudged the mouse.

Also, the E60 iDrive mouse free spins - like a tuner on a radio, you spin it to get to the radio station you want. But the E65 doesn - you turn it say 20 degrees, and it changes the stations at a slow speed, then increse it to 40 degrees, and it goes a bit faster. Pick an interface and stick with it!
