I just bought a 2003 325i manual - took it to the local BMW dealership to get the light on in the instrument panel about the right taillights checked out cos - i couldnt figure it out why it was ON as all lights worked just fine.

Dealer had it for a day and fixed a bunch of things (still under warranty for a couple more months) - told me there was an issue with grounding and they fixed it now and the light in the dash was gone.

After picking up my car at 6PM from them went to starbucks and was sitting outside when my friend notices the lights ON in my car - I rush to open the doors and there is SMOKE (Electrical Burning smell) coming from the under the dash. Half the lights on the outside are ON half are OFF - i called roadside assistance and they towed it to the dealership again (same one) at 8PM.

One headlight was on and the other was off, so i decided to remove one of the connections to the battery (negative) so that the battery doesnt die by the time they look at it tomorrow morning. What could be wrong..... any ideas....

Have I done anything wrong. What could be the issue, I just got the car - so am damn scared, am a newbie to bimmers.... coming from a jap car world....

All help is appreciated...

Please help !!

If the battery is dead - will BMW maintainance and service plans cover this ???
