I might try it again, but you know, it's tough to improve upon a classic.

Best example I could think of is the original 1964 1/2 Mustang. Beautiful car. They could have kept that car the way it was for years and sold millions of them. But instead they kept changing it, bloating its size so much that the 1973 model (the last year before the God-awful Pinto-based Mustang II was inflicted upon us) was unrecognizable in any resemblance to the original. It took another 34 years to get that car back to some semblance of the vehicle Lee Iacocca originally created.

I'd love to see a reborn E32 dressed up in modern clothes, but I'm not sure it could be done, since the original E32 was already done so well.

I have also noted that very little seems to have been done to address the car's bloated weight. Come on! The current car weighs around 5,000 pounds. That's about the same weight as an E90 3-series and a Mini COMBINED.

Dump the techno-crap, or at least relegate the useless fluff (I'm still trying understand how 20+way power seats with fanny heaters and coolers makes it a better performance car) to the options list (a better idea). Some of us are still longing for a no-excuses luxury performance sedan that BMW stopped making in 2001.



Yes, it's a 1988 750il. She's down for the moment, but she WILL be back to fight again. Lesser cars, don't get too comfortable in her absence. Her hiatus from the highway will be a brief one. Last 7 digits of VIN number are 2765157'
