He was talking for days about how he thought the ///M-series was over-hyped, and how it's just an unjustified cult following that appreciates them. He stopped by last night and we went down to look at it in the down-stairs garage. I popped the hood and he started spouting about how much a rebuild must cost, and how it looks like you have to remove the radiator just to get at the distributor cap. He got in the driver's seat and started to warm up, however.
"I love how 'euro' this interior is! Do all these seat control still work? Is that leather on the doors? AND the console?"
I asked him if he wanted to see why I love the car so much and believe in it so faithfully. He responded with a non-committal, "If you wanna, sure". I made up a story about having to warm it up before the real power comes on, because I wanted to get up the street to the 2mi stretch. Of course, he picked at that, too.
"It doesn't even run good when it's cold? See, I don't see the point."

Then I turned off into a parking lot to head back in the direction of my house, nosed to the entrance to the strip and asked if he was ready. "It's not like I'm going to have to hang on... am I???" Just for giggles (more than I knew at the time) I decided to let the tires break loose for a few seconds in first and second while we came sideways out onto the strip. As soon as the car was in gear, and as we were approaching 120Mph, he never - stopped - laughing. He was laughing so hard, he couldn't breathe, and when we pulled into my garage again, he had tears running down his cheeks.

"NOW do you see why I love this car?"

"I want one!"
