fan clutch may or may not be bad. The airflow from driving is enough to cool the car and the fan clutch matters not. If sitting at the light and the temp which was normal now climbs until the car starts to move then maybe the fan clutch is bad. Many folks use the neswpaper trick. With the car warmed up (fan clutch is temp sensitive) try to stop the fan with a rolled up newspaper. If it stops it is bad, if it does not stop it is good. I don't use this method, I use the temp rising at the stop criteria.

Now if the car just overheats, or runs hot, the system is full, the water pump is good (if it is working it is usually good enough for this criteria), the thermostat is working and so forth, the radiator may be bad. The radiator is a 10-15 year consumable in BMWs.
