My 84 325e OEM muffler just sported a hole about the size of a baseball. It doesn't sound bad, but a little too loud for me. So I need a new one, and cost is a big issue. In researching this I found that the muffler is one piece from the cat back; with a smaller muffler behind the cat. Everything from the cat back to the end muffler is good. So I only need the end muffler. I only found 2 on the web, both from Ansa. A regular one{P/N H5000-68383) for $90.68. And a Sport one(P/N H5000-68384) for $138.77. Both of these would entail sawing off the old one and installing this to the cut off end. Has anyone ever done this? How easy is it. Did you use either of these mufflers? And how did you like it?
The dealer Quoted me a price for the whole piece (from the cat back) of $260.00. So when I found these three. I considered replacing the whole piece.
1. Eberspaecher (P/N H5000-50167) $208.64. I never herd of them. Does anyone have any info on this one?
2. Ansa (P/N H5000-51171) $131.87. Does anyone have any info on this one?
3. Bosal (P/N H5000-39979) $144.28. Does anyone have any info on this one?
The site I got these numbers from was expressautoparts.com. They were the cheepest. But every site I checked took me to the same place with the same format, parts, and part numbers; just diferent prices.
