alt belt tight, I never had much luck turning w/ the alternator. I even tried racking the ALT up tight, but it only cracked the mount bushings (735, 745 and recently a 633) ...

Finally, when I broke down and spent 3 minutes removing the fan and shroud, cam placement became a snap .. A remote start switch to the starter is my next favorite, but not as accurate...

Now... the rest of the story... a while back.... whilst rebuilding a Peugeot 403, I left a wrench on the crank bolt, forgot about it, & when I spun the engine w/ the sarter ....yupppp, trashed lots of stuff (radiator, fan blades, etc...) so ... I swore I'd never do it again....

So, now when ever I do anything that could cripple the car, (like a wrench on the crank or changing the oil .... I stick a note on the instrument cluster... kinda like the "Remove Before Flight" streamers on aircraft ... ... so far.. it has worked great.. js
