I have an 04 M3 and want to do the same. You will see 2 types of Nav screens to install, the 4:3 AND THE 16:9 WIDESCEEEN. The widescreen is what comes in new M3's and looks Identical to the 2002 5 series ones. From what BMW has told me, they are not the same. That's the screen and housing. To order just those parts from BMW, you would have to dig deep into your pocket. Then there's the Computer (MK III or MK IV), GPS antenna, Onboard Monitor Radio, Harness, etc. I have bought a CD changer and MK III on Ebay for less than $200 a piece, so that's an option. The following sites show some retro-fits of the 4:3 with MK-III. I haven't found anywhere to purchase the E46 16:9 widescreen expect the dealership. Right now I'm trying to figure out what the differences are between the 5 and 3 series 16:9 screens and whether or not you can make it work in the 3 series. Good luck. Hope these sites help.
