Welding the tank was the option I had available at the time, and if done properly is certainly an excellent and reliable fix. The best option would be a new tank obviously, but getting a Euro 70L tank could be a real task and would likely be a significant expense, if one is even available.

Another option is the sealer that many use inside of the tank. I don't consider it a good option as I have seen tanks come out of cars with regularly clogged fuel filters that have had the sealer separate from the tank. A used tank is by far the worst option unless you have a very reputable recycler. Even then he is restricted to what he has.

In my case the tank was pristine inside and out, no rust, no damage. A MIG welder will not create the heat stress that will result in more cracks later. I do not expect any future problems with it.
