Jack,

I have a 92 325i, with 159000 miles on it. It originally came with 15" wheels. I then put 16" Racing Dynamics on it. Then came 17" BBS RKs, with tires that had the same outside diameter as the 15". They looked great. Handling was noticeably improved. The downside was a much harsher ride which helped to loosen the chassis. I couldn't touch a curb, however lightly, without damaging the wheels, because there was virtually no tire sidewall to protect the outer face of the wheel. After 64000 miles the wheels were showing fatique cracks where the spokes met the rim and I had to scrap the wheels because they were becoming unsafe. I have gone back to 16". I would stay away from wheels that would result in a tire aspect ratio of less than 50%. Or be VERY, VERY careful around curbs and chuck holes.
