Life threatening. I understand that the engine overheating can cause an inconvenience, and may have to be towed, but it is VERY unlikely that it will injure anyone. That is unless, of course, it "causes" a crash. The "iron rod in the fuel tank" sounds like it has nothing to do with the quality of BMW, but rather the road conditions. An iron rod will most likely puncture any fuel tank at 60mph.
