David,
If the bumper is removable from all the trim you could get a polished finish if you use a 7" polisher/sander with buffing compound. I have done this to various aluminum pieces and am satisfied with the results unless the metal is cast, then due to the porosity of the metal it will appear hazy. The method I use is to remove all oxidation and defects with a sisal wheel (just like the old time welcome mats) using rouge, this is followed by a cotton wheel that is radially sewn using a finer compound this will produce a very good polish. To achieve the polished look a unsewn cotton wheel with more compound will get it to look fantastic. Look in the yellow pages for
metal polishing/finishing supplies. The only thing is that aluminum oxidizes and you should either keep using the hand polish to keep it shiny or clear it.
